What does it mean to be truly present? We sometimes fool ourselves into thinking that we are present when talking to an individual when our mind is running elsewhere. Or when spending time with our loved ones when we are continually distracted by our phones, messages and the myriads of things that keep us occupied nowadays. These examples indicates presence of body but not mind.
"When you love someone, the best thing you can offer is your presence. How can you love if you are not there." Nhat Hann
An example of presence liken to falling in love. When we fall in love we give that person our undivided attention, and at that state we forget everything else but that moment. That exhilaration can only be felt in that moment.
"Empathy is full presence to what's alive in the other person at this moment." John Cunningham
Though, we are not falling in love everyday we can surely still feel like that at any given moment. If you consciously stop thinking at this present moment and look around you, you will feel total calm within you. You may even notice things that you may have never noticed before even though you've been in this very place many times. This peacefulness is accessible to you at all times and its free.
"The more clearly you understand yourself and your emotions, the more you become a lover of what is." Baruch Spinoza
I know it is hard to be fully conscious at all times because the way our society works, bombarding us with things we should be doing, information overload and not to mention that we are constantly multi-tasking , but the more you practise it the more beautiful moments you will be creating.
"Be where you are otherwise you will miss your life." Buddha
A really good book to read and can explain presence is called The power of now by Eckhart Tolle. Be present until my friend.
You got to be present
To know your essence
You got to stop the noise in your head
To get ahead
Your presence is the best present
Anyone will ever receive
So, let no moment go unperceived
I am a person who is into self development and I am always learning and striving to be the best of myself. I like to empower others to make a difference in theirs and others lives. I also like to express myself creatively through poetry. "I'm an architect, of myself...."
