"Can you remember who you were, before the world told you who you should be?" Charles Bukowski
I open with the above quote because most of the times, I believe, we all reflect someone else instead of our true selves. Well, it is ourselves but what I mean is it's the self that have been conditioned with all the beliefs of who we should be, how we should behave religiously, socially, culturally, economically and personally. These belief systems limits us creatively and accentuate our differences. It's these differences that create havoc in this world because we see life as right or wrong and we are of the opinion, at least I think, that we all see or should see the world in the same way like there's a consensus we're all bound by.
"We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." Anais Nin
This is why we have wars and arguments because we cannot understand why others think and act differently to us on so many levels. For example, if a person choose to become a vegan he or she might have built a whole lot of beliefs around health, meat and animals, So, that person's reality of how they act and opinions will be very different to a non-vegan. Now, instead of accepting these differences we may get into an argument regarding meat and how healthy or unhealthy it may be, then we start to get defensive, critical or judgemental by trying to make the other person wrong and us right as if our lives depended on it. (I know this is a silly example but you know where I'm going with this.) So what if we accept someone's opinion, it wouldn't change or kill us in anyway. On the contrary, we might learn something new, another perspective and it doesn't mean we have to change our stance in life unless we choose to.
"The world we see that seems so insane is the result of a belief system that is not working. To perceive the world differently we must be willing to change our belief system, let the past slip away, expand our sense of now, and dissolve the fear in our minds." William James
I've learnt that there are no right or wrong ways only experiences and what we can learn from these experiences. If we want to live in harmony within our selves, we first have to recognise our own belief systems in any action we take and understand that everyone is operating from their own belief systems which are unlike ours but also valid. To live in acceptance of these differences are our true selves and the road to happiness and freedom my friend. Until next time.
I praise the Lord
And you don't
I walk under a ladder
But you won't
I take the left
You take the right
We reach the same destination
Wrong or right

I am a person who is into self development and I am always learning and striving to be the best of myself. I like to empower others to make a difference in theirs and others lives. I also like to express myself creatively through poetry. "I'm an architect, of myself...."
