We all dream right? Some of us like to day dream, especially when we are bored. We dream in the night which is an outlet for our subconscious to release certain emotions, and we don't necessarily remember them always when we wake up in the morning. Then, there are those dreams that successful people have. When I speak of successful I don't always mean it in a monetary sense, because a lot of prominent people lived in poverty and only became prominent after their death. This category of people include those who have changed world views, freedom fighters, spiritual leaders, poets and so on. These dreams are called visions and these people had a vision of what needed to be done to change things, their lives, others lives and the standard they wished to live by.
"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." Eleanor Roosevelt
I use to day dream all the time like most people, I think, are you with me on this one? You know, the ones we use as an escapism when we're unhappy and where we usually indulge in the memories of the past, which does us no good as we get stuck instead of moving forward. Or we fantasise, and we call it that because it's those dreams we consider to be too big for us to accomplish. I now realise that those dreams have real power, if used in the right way.
"You can plant a dream." Anne Campbell
Where does the power come from? From the ability to envision your dreams clearly and taking steps to manifest them. Whatever we focus on, our power/energy increases in that direction. We all dream about the things we are truly passionate about, at least I hope so, the life we want to live; the house we want to live in; our ideal job and so forth. These shouldn't be a dream but a plan to move towards, an incentive to work for.
"Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming after all, is a form of planning." Gloria Steinem
Successful people don't just dream but look for opportunities to sell their dreams. We are all buying someone else's dream or helping them to build it, whether we realise it or not, why not build your own?
"Our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." Walt Disney
I am not assuming that you live a sorry life, you may already be living a fulfilled life but to those who don't know where to start, I suggest looking at your dreams and the possibilities in them. I know I always harp on, in most of my posts, if not all, about going for your dreams, taking action and working hard at it, although it's a fun kinda hard work when it's your dream, but that's what life is about and then we die, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
"A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work." Colin Powell
For those looking for inspirations, I can recommend a book called Creative Flowdreaming: Manifesting Your Dreams In The Life You've Already Got by Summer Schweitzer.
"I challenge you to be dreamers; I challenge you to be doers and let us make the greatest place in the world even better." Brian Schweitzer
With this in mind, I leave you with a poem until next time, dream well my friend.
I am but a dream
In my father's dream
But I am very real
To all it seems
Because we're all
Part of the same scene
His creation, his vision
I, too, dream
Like my father dream
Of my creation, my vision

Success is a wide debatable topic. I think it's a personal thing. However, I'm going to discuss the success that brings value or meaning to someone's life. Some people need to achieve big to feel successful, while others just tackling the day to day obstacle can make them feel successful. I, myself, started out by dealing with my health on a day to day basis and felt triumph over my body's corporation to my method of management.
"Success is the sum of small efforts. repeated day in and day out." Robert Collier
But as soon as I was good at managing my health I aspired to bigger goals, bigger dreams which I call my life purpose. My dream is to be able to contribute to building schools in countries where they need it. Because I am passionate about learning and grateful for the opportunities I've had in my life, I would like young children to have the same opportunities, especially, girls who are marginalised in poor countries. I believe it's education that can lift someone out of poverty. It's easy to give money to the poor but giving them an education is more valuable, it's the equivalent saying "give a man a fish and he will eat for one day but teach a man to fish and he will eat a lifetime." So, that's my dream of success to be a part of all those who have already embarked on this journey, for example great organisation like PencilsOfPromise.
"If you can dream it, you can do it." Walt Disney
How do we move towards success? If we can conquer ourselves, meaning the battle that goes on in our heads about what we can or cannot do, then we will be half way there. Then we need to goal set, step by step i.e. breaking the end goal down into doable size so that we are not overwhelmed by the magnitude of the goal. A book that can help you with breaking down goals is called One Small Step Can Change Your Life: The Kaizen Way.
"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Lao Tzu
Get all the help/advice you need. Be resolute and do not be fearful of failure or other's opinion of your goal.
"In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure." Bill Crosby
Learn from your mistakes, it's what makes us grow, without them we will never learn anything. Develop good working habits. Acquire knowledge that will help you will the success of your goal. Write down your daily objectives starting from the hard ones to the easy, even if you don't manage to cover all of them on that day, at least you have an agenda and a structured day. Don't give up at the first or even second obstacle, keep moving, problem solving. Even if you don't make it to your end goal, you would have learned something valuable through the process and your goal may turn into something better or you find yourself in a different path than what you've set out to do.
"Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don't quit." Conrad Hilton
I think you get the gist of what needs to be done to attain success in any field, even mastery over yourself, which I consider to be the hardest. No one said it was going to be easy but by training ourselves like a soldier we should be able to take the hard knocks. So live successfully no matter what your goal is in life. Feel free to share your goal/dream with me. We are all on the same journey. Until next time, soldier on.
Get dress for success
You're a cut above the rest
If each time you fall
You get back up
And give it your all
There is no shame
In seeking fame
If that's your game
Whatever your art
Be determined to start
Give the world a star
No matter who you are!
